Dignity Health
California’s largest hospital provider implements a cost-effective, future-focused sign conversion program.
Unity through a new brand
Catholic Healthcare West, a health system located throughout California, Nevada and Arizona, was converging from an aggregation of various hospitals into one new brand called Dignity Health. The move was part of the system’s strategy to expand nationally.
Following the rebrand, Dignity Health needed to implement the name change across the entire network. Together with Monigle, Dignity Health navigated the complex branding environment by implementing a cohesive, retail-centric conversion strategy that boosted brand presence—and subsequently brand awareness—throughout the system.
Limited budgets, maximum impact
Because name changes had to happen across 39 main hospital campuses and more than 300 off-site and satellite locations, budget was a real concern. To keep hardware costs to a minimum, the team began the design process with the goal of repurposing and rebranding existing signage whenever possible. Each signage solution maintained the integrity of the original design intent. The sign applications and wayfinding created the layer of brand consistency necessary to provide clarity and increase awareness. The result was a more consumer-centric presence in the marketplace and increased branding opportunities for Dignity Health locations.

Simplicity in the details
By using our proprietary software SignChart®—which tracks and manages the process for faster and smarter sign conversion—Dignity Health and Monigle were able to manage hundreds of sign conversion projects at once, on a condensed timeframe. And a holistic approach, encompassing end-to-end design, management and construction, made navigating government approvals a simple part of the process—rather than a project-stalling obstacle.
Positioned for the future
As healthcare has continued to become more and more integrated, it was imperative that Dignity Health’s brand presence showcase integration at every possible touchpoint. Dignity Health’s accomplishment of this, in spite of budget constraints, exemplifies the power of creative thinking. Through unification and the smart allocation of resources, the brand is now positioned in the marketplace for the future of healthcare.
